As an ISV, we at Flame-Ware Solutions, are aware that there are quite a few sitemap generators out there, including one provided by Google™ itself. However, when we found ourselves with the need for one, they were all either too complicated to use, operate or just lacking in features. We simply couldn't find one that could satisfy our needs and high standards.

What is a sitemap?
Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling.
In its simplest form, a Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL
(when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so
that search engines can crawl the site more efficiently.

Why you need a sitemap?
As any SEO (Search Engine Optimizer) knows, the World-Wide-Web is a growing place and as such, search engines, such as Google.com, Yahoo.com, etc..., can't index every website out there.
Sitemaps are your way to help the search engines index your site better, faster and more often.
After you create your sitemap you can inform the various search engines that a new sitemap file has been uploaded and request they
crawl the site again, using that file.

Below is a list of features in Flame-Spider - Sitemap Generator:
- Simple - Quick to install and start
- Generates one or all of the following:
- ● sitemap.xml (for Google™ & others)
- ● urllist.txt (for Yahoo!™)
- ● ror.xml
- Runs as a windows service on scheduled occasions (NOT using windows scheduler).
- Reports dead links (with 404 page consideration)
- Notifications:
Notifications are invoked every time a sitemap is generated (either manually or automatically).
All notifications are optional and can be fully configured. All notifications can be added multiple times
- ● Save to a Local Folder
Saves the generated sitemaps to a local or network folder. This is usefull when running on the web server itslf.
- ● Upload Using FTP
Enables more than one FTP destination (i.e when using load balancer).
- ● Notify by Email
Sends an email notification (based on a user template) that a sitemap has been generated.
- ● Ping Search Engines
Send the generated sitemap to search engines to re-index.
- Performance Report
After generating a sitemap and sending the notifications a full report email is sent to the administrator.
- The generated sitemaps:
- ● Filtering: full control over the pages and directories that are indexed and/or followed.
- ● Sections: full control over the "last modified", "priority" and "frequency" properties of each section and page.
